Fractional CMO for AI, Data & Cybersecurity | Stealth Cartel

Every company that grows well ends up with its own formula. A few channels that keep working, a couple of assets that keep showing up in closed deals, and a longer list of things they tried once and dropped. Finding yours is the work.

A fractional CMO decides where your marketing time and money go, and then builds what those decisions call for. At your stage that usually means positioning and the proof your sales conversations run on, before you commit to any channel. Stealth Cartel does this work for AI, data, and cybersecurity companies.

We start with what you already have. Where does organic traffic come from, and how much of it turns into leads? Which deals closed fastest, and what was in the room when they did? What core content exists, and what is missing? Then we look outward, at your competitors and at companies further along, for patterns worth testing in your market.

Authenticity is one of the filters. The formula should draw from real expertise, use a voice your team can sustain, and show up in places buyers already trust.

Some of that becomes clear in the first few weeks. The rest requires a live test. Each experiment gives us better evidence about where to keep investing, what to change, and what to stop.

What Does a Fractional CMO Do?

A fractional CMO takes responsibility for marketing decisions a founder is still making between customer calls: which buyers to prioritize, how the company explains its value, what gets built first, and which proof helps sales conversations move forward.

At Stealth Cartel, that responsibility includes hands-on execution. We set priorities and build much of the core work directly. When a program calls for deeper channel or production expertise, we bring in and direct the right specialist while remaining accountable for how that work fits the plan.

Founders often search for a fractional marketing team because they need leadership and execution together. This engagement is designed for that need, with one senior marketing lead accountable for the whole plan.

Who We Work With

Stealth Cartel works with funded, revenue-generating AI, data infrastructure, and cybersecurity companies, typically from Seed through Series A.

At many of these companies, a founder or cofounder is still making the senior marketing decisions between customer calls, product work, hiring, and fundraising. In others, a marketing manager is already keeping programs moving but needs an experienced leader to set priorities, connect the work, and guide the decisions that follow new funding.

The engagement is a strong fit when the company needs one accountable marketing lead who can move between strategy and execution. That may follow a funding round, a major launch, a change in market direction, or the point when founder-led growth needs a more deliberate system.

What a Fractional CMO Engagement Covers

Positioning

The messaging architecture underneath everything else: category framing, differentiation, and the proof points that make the claims credible to a technical buyer.

Proof

Case studies, technical explainers, sales collateral, and competitive material that help buyers and sales teams move a decision forward.

Demand Generation

Authenticity guides channel selection. We look at how your buyers research, what your company can speak about credibly, how your leaders communicate best, and what the team can sustain. That evidence shapes the campaigns, email, partner programs, and analyst outreach we build directly, along with any search, social, paid media, publication, podcast, or event opportunities we recommend. Each program has to fit the brand before it earns a place in the plan.

Content and Market Presence

Launch content and thought leadership that make the company easier to understand and easier to find. Search, social media, publications, podcasts, and events enter the plan according to where the audience already pays attention.

Market Credibility

Analyst briefings, award submissions, and event strategy for audiences your buyers already trust.

Partner and Go-to-Market Programs

Co-marketing, partner enablement, and launch campaigns that give customers and partners a concrete reason to participate.

How the Fractional CMO Engagement Works

The engagement begins with a 90-day ramp. We assess the current market story, sales conversations, proof, programs, competitive position, and available performance data. From there, we establish the priorities, build the most important foundation, and begin testing the programs most likely to fit your company and buyers.

We meet weekly for a working session, a progress review, or both. Monthly reviews cover completed work, available performance signals, and decisions that need to be made. Each quarter, we reset the plan around what we have learned and what the business needs next.

You also have asynchronous access between meetings when feedback or decisions need to keep moving.

The work is designed as a long-term operating relationship rather than a collection of disconnected projects.

How Specialist Support Works

We lead the strategy, set priorities, and build much of the core work directly. That commonly includes positioning, messaging, campaigns, email, partner programs, analyst relations, and sales proof.

Some programs require dedicated channel or production expertise. When the plan calls for ongoing social media management, graphic design, video, technical SEO, paid search, AI search visibility, advertising, or another specialized discipline, we define the need, bring in the right expert, and direct how the work connects to the larger plan. Specialist work is scoped separately. You continue to work through Stealth Cartel.

We generally start with organic opportunities that can build authority over time, including useful expertise, customer proof, email, partners, analysts, events, and trusted publications and podcasts. Paid programs enter the plan selectively, when the audience, offer, and timing support the investment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a fractional CMO and a marketing agency?

A fractional CMO works inside the leadership rhythm and owns marketing priorities, sequencing, and measurement. An agency is usually hired for a defined project, channel, or scope. Stealth Cartel combines senior marketing leadership with hands-on execution and brings in specialist support when the plan requires it.

For more on choosing between an agency, a CMO, and a generalist, read Should Your First Marketing Investment Be an Agency, CMO or a Generalist?

When should a startup hire a fractional CMO?

Common triggers include a funding round, a major launch, a changing market story, or the point when founder-led marketing can no longer be managed between other responsibilities. Stealth Cartel is built for funded, revenue-generating companies, typically Seed through Series A, that need senior marketing leadership before hiring a full-time CMO.

How long is a fractional CMO engagement?

Fractional CMO engagements begin with a 12-month commitment. The first 90 days establish the foundation and begin testing the initial programs. We work together weekly, review progress and measurement monthly, and reset priorities each quarter.

Can we start with a marketing assessment?

Yes. Our Investigative engagement is a focused 20-hour assessment for companies that need greater clarity before beginning an ongoing program. We review your positioning, content, competitive landscape, and current marketing activity, then deliver a prioritized playbook and recommended order of operations.

Companies ready for ongoing leadership and execution can begin with the 90-day fractional CMO ramp.

Do you handle all marketing execution?

We handle much of the core work directly, including positioning, messaging, campaigns, partner programs, analyst relations, and sales proof. When a program requires dedicated channel or production expertise, we bring in and direct the appropriate specialist. That work may be scoped separately.

Do you work with companies outside cybersecurity?

Yes. We work across AI, data infrastructure, and cybersecurity. What these have in common is a technical product, a long explanation, and a buyer who checks the claims.

Do you work with companies outside Maryland, DC, and Virginia?

Yes, across the United States. Our roots are in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast technology corridor, which means deeper networks here, and we work remotely with companies nationwide.
